Freddie Gray’s family reacts to police being charged: ‘We were shocked, but it was a good shock’

Freddie Gray’s family heard that criminal charges would be brought against several police officers in the same way that the public did: by watching it on TV. In a press conference on Friday, Gray family attorney William Murphy Jr. said the state attorney’s announcement of criminal charges for six Baltimore police officers allegedly responsible for Gray’s death surprised the family. “We were shocked, but it was a good shock,” Murphy said. “Today has given the Gray family a measure of hope,” Murphy said.
